Reads on motherhood and motherhood outfits
Hello! It’s bright and early, and it’s Mother’s Day. I scheduled this letter, which means I’m still lying in bed (either asleep or with coffee in hand).
This is my third Mother’s Day as a mother and it’s hard to grapple with how fast the time has flown by. I’ll save my thesis on motherhood and growth for another day, but I will say that three Mother’s Days later, I still feel like someone could pinch me at any moment. This journey has been the most rewarding, joyful, challenging, breathtaking, beautiful journey I will ever take on in my life, and I am so grateful.
If you are also lying in bed with a beverage of choice and in search of some extra credit reading, I have just the line up for you:
For those in need of advice from those who come before you: “Mom Hacks” by Ariane Anusbigian, just a splash
For heartwarming realness from a first time mom: “letters to my daughter” by Meighan Grady, i think it’s brave:
For the inside scoop on where cool moms are actually buying kids clothes “Where a Picky Fashion Writer Actually Buys Her Kids’ Clothes” by Maura Brannigan, Clotheshorse
For Mother’s Day recipes that will be sure to delight: “recipes for mother’s day brunch” by Katie, the sunday stack
For last minute outfit inspiration for however you’re spending your day today: “Dress for the Mother’s Day you’re actually have” by me!
Bear with me, reader, as the outfits featured below are a bit all over the place. I was in the office, then on vacation, then back in the office, then it was the weekend! So various settings and climates to consider. Diving in:

Listen, vacation was starting on Thursday and I was only going into the office 3x days this week, so comfort won over most days.
Monday: Poplin Top, Jeans, Loafers, Trench Coat (similar), Sunglasses
Tuesday: Blazer (similar), T-Shirt, Skirt (similar), Loafers
Wednesday: Sweater (similar), Pants, Loafers (Favorite outfit of this work week—instantly going in the rotation!)

Ran pre-vacation errands (went shopping) and got outfit compliments from the cool college girls working at a local boutique (disclaimer: this photo was taken in Madewell, not the local boutique).
Who doesn’t love an airport look?! Comfortable layers are crucial, so I always throw a sweater on no matter the temperature. Ideally, it’s a sweater that can be dual-purpose on the trip as well. And I’m happy to report that the LESET Kyoto pants are plane approved.

First order of business: the pool. Forgot I scored this bathing suit during one of last year’s DOEN sales. It’s not terribly supportive, but I’ll let it fly considering how adorable the pattern is.
P.S. This pattern has been discontinued, but they have the same style in a couple of new patterns on sale and I might have to snag one!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t shout from the rooftops about these Reformation linen pants that CARRIED ME throughout the entire trip. Plus, they come in Short!

Brown and red, forever! Did you catch my recent letter on primary colors? I wrote about the many ways to wear red—one of my favorites being with brown. The theory holds true.
I also took a gamble on these paracord sandals from Old Navy and they are such a sleeper hit. High quality for the price, comfortable, and very on-trend.
Remember those linen pants? I wore them on the plane home. And remember that sweater I wore on the flight to vacation? You can tell by the stains that it was put to good use.
Back to reality! We returned home from vacation on Wednesday, so I was back in the office on Thursday. I stepped into my closet Thursday morning and had next to no clue what to wear. This always happens to me after vacation—I suddenly forget how to dress for real life.
Thursday: Jacket, Jeans, Loafers
Friday: Sweater, Pants (similar), Sandals (FYI, these sandals remind me of the ones from The Row but at an incredibly small fraction of the price)

Guess I’m buying ON paracord sandals 😂
i have the ref linen pants in white and black and agree they are soooo good. i think i need to add the paracords to my summer list!
